hey TT- what kinds of things would you buy to support US skiing? what xc skiing media do you want to see? do you want a HDDVD or are you happy watching clips at 320x240 on youtube? is online content like fasterskier fine, or would you buy an xc ski racing magazine if there was one? the FoXC daehlie hat looks pretty sweet, and at $50 (which is about the same as retail, ouch US dollar), i may get me one. what else would you spend $50 on if it supported US skiing?
More World Cup on DVD! Not just this season, but some old classics if they're out there (they must be) like past relays, famous races, etc. I've worn down American Skier from over-watching.
That link above is for the USST technique video - footage from USST training, World Cup footage, and lots of info, drills, ideas, lesson plans, etc.
Also:
www.ussa.org go to sports, cross country, education... there is a lot of technique and preparation info there as well as at: www.ussa.org, sports, cross country, development and even at the news section under cross country.
so you folks that want quality DVDs. are you looking for races just as they're seen on tv (though not by us in the US) or are you interested in other stuff? interviews, training footage, lifestyle, non-broadcast race footage, etc...? any examples of sports shows that you like that you wish you could see related to xc skiing? personally, i like a lot of the surfing movies i've seen.
English language Eurosport coverage was awesome but it doesn't appear to exits any more? We need an international network of TiVOs to rip stuff to disk and upload.
Skiers my age (26) and younger have figured out how to get all the World Cup races online. You can either pay for em at wcsn, get up early and watch on the NRK website, or download them as bit torrents (yes pirated and only sometimes in english) and old ones are all on the ftp server here: ftp://mpeg-races.kicks-ass.org/
So while some coaches and master skiers would find the value in buying the actual footage, many of us are already watching them.
I think clothes are where it's at -- I think lots of people would be interested in buying the Ski Team jackets or race suits or whatever-- more actual ski clothing than is currently availible off the USSA site.
I'd love some good skiing gear with Team Today logos on it - hats, vests, etc. I've got all the race videos I can handle (see Marshall's comment), but a day-of-the-race video would be cool: follow a couple racers over the whole race day, from getting up in the morning to warming up and racing to going to bed that night. ESPN-style stuff, but without the blowhard athletes.
