Raising The Level Of Cross-Country Skiing In America

The mission is clear, but I think what we can best do now is build TT into the voice of our sport. TT should be the center of our consituents, an advocacy group if you will. For sure the goal is to raise money, first and foremost, to help develop the sport...but also, this can be a place for the nordic army to mobilize, spread the word, and fight for what we need.

Looks great to me!

I really like the divisions, and I think that once people start getting into the site and discussions start getting posted it'll be fantastic.

Great job!

I agree with Kaitlyn in the value of having more localized discussion groups-- more intimate forums get more people involved in and aware of skiing (at a local and national level). Sometimes, people think they have more to talk about on a local level--it's "in their comfort zone." Yet, after time, when people have gotten into their discussions, they'll start talking about bigger ideas without even knowing it, ideas that they were perhaps too scared to tackle at first. The great thing about Team Today (unlike Dyestat) is that there IS place for these bigger ideas to be posted, and shared, with coaches and athlete involved at the elite level. There is a place to directly channel support and ideas that will make a difference.

I agree-- great job so far, Jonathan! And Kaitlyn, great ideas.

First of all, this is a great idea! If TT is here to support the nordic community to grow and then to support the medal efforts of its best, here are some ideas from a relative newbie to the sport: a senior who didn't ski in college or as a junior, but plans to race and to support the sport for the rest of my life:

1) TT could create a space to educate with the latest studies in training, nutrition, techniqe and equipment. I would love to be a part of discussions and applications of the cutting edge evolution of the human being in nordic form.
2) TT could create a space to share insights and tips about regional, national and international races about events, travel and lodging from people that know only from having done it.
3) TT could create a space for carpooling to regional races and to get to the snow.
4) TT could create a space to excelerate the efforts for Global Cooling. In my opinion, the 20-year challenge for ski race medals is the challenge to make sure we have snow.

The idea of growing the fan base to cheer on nordic racers to super-star-dome is a brilliant idea! Athletes get their support not soley based upon their physical abilities, but rather upon the number of people that get inspired by watching them. Rather than asking for sponsorships, you are creating sponsors. I, for one, will be one... thanks to the effforts of TT!

HEY WAIT A MINUTE!!!! great suggestions you guys, but some of these ideas are already out there on the web. We dont need calendars (fasterskier, skinnyski), we dont need intro to skiin stuff (xcskiworld), we dont need too much region specific stuff (nensa, skinnyski, etc). LETS NOT REINVENT THE WHEEL.

No, we don't want to reinvent the wheel. However, all that stuff is scattered far and wide across the web. It would be great to see it all collected under one roof. Even if it is just a collection of links to content elsewhere.

Bingo. That's what we want.

We DEFINITELY could use a page of links, someplace on this site that is obvious to someone just checking in the first time. I think there are a lot of people out there who don't know how to find all the resources that do exist, so having a website we could direct them to with links to all the other nordic skiing resources out there would be perfect. You could have categories, such as racing, equipment, training/nutrition, etc, on the page, but really, we need something listing all the useful sites out there.

Originality is challenging, but essential. I think what has been started here on TT is something special. It's the only place all American skiers have the ability to actively exchange ideas; there are no barriers dividing high school skiers from Olympic-seeking Nordis...it's common ground. I strongly agree with Eli...let's keep TT's originality original.
I fear that this site will get too overwhelming if it takes on the already-filled roles of other great XC sites. A page of HTML links would be great, so people could find their way around. So long as the heart of TT remains in the sharing of ideas and the advocacy....'cause that's unique.
