I don't think I've ever skied on snow that cold that was that fast....what you guys have done out there this year is incredible.
For the sake of comparison, I skied the ungroomed connector on the top of the ridge (from east to west)-I was trying to work a loop in the woods on the top of the hill. The difference between the two trail surfaces was substantial--needless to say I only did that one time.
Overall the base was in good shape, and F-A-S-T!!! Edging was decent enough on the flats and climbs, but just a little too firm for me to feel fully in control in some of the more technical sections---I rode the brakes a lot as I couldn't get a confident edge as often as I'd like.
Generally anything that was in the sun was fast, and anything in the shade is what you would expect for -5 degrees.
I'm dreading the hills. I found an old race report out on RSN from Tegeder that calls it "worse than the Birkie". I've been doing some work out at Woodland Hills, and today out at BC (thanks for your work out there BTW...). I know it's going to be harsh--I guess I'm just trying to mitigate the harshness.
Hope to see you there!

Hi, John -
This is my first of these sorts of on line social networks. I'll be interested to see if it lasts as long as, say, nordic-net (RIP) did.
I see you've been burning up the races these last few weeks. I, on the other hand, have found myself doing less training than any time in the last 6 months (and no racing). The way things are going, I'm not sure I'll race at all this year.
I've been toying w. the O'brien race as well. I'm just not sure if a: the bride will support, and b: if I'm quite ready for back-to-back 25's (although I think "Bill" is a more forgiving course).

Hey, it's only -5 :)
I'm hoping things will be OK back in the woods and on the Ski Games Trail.
Hope to see you there!
