Hey Jeff,
It was great to ski with you and Will. I was really impressed with him and how well he kept up with all the big kids. Fishing at Cresthill this summer would be great...but Kuz and I are terrible fisherman.
Hello Jeff, thought I'd drop you a note rather than keep blabbing on the Birkie thread, I've said enough ; )
I like your suggestion about trying to find out the reason for the prize decrease in the Birkie. What people fail to understand is that a decision like this was made with significant due diligence, for reasons that aren't apparent to outsiders.
Without being very politically adept and using the right channels, to challenge that decision and complain about a purse that isn't big enough will rub many people, like it does me, the wrong way.
I have my suspicions about some of the reasons it was made and some of them relate to the long term lack of participation by top American skiers in the Birke and the huge costs the Birkie Foundation has borne over many years getting top Europeans to come over and ski it.
A change of direction has occurred, I guess that opting out of the FIS Woldloppet competition and putting many more resources into grassroots and regional nordic skiing initiatives is part of this change.
When you get to this level of political decision making things get complex quick. I think a gracious petition or, as you suggest, to somehow find out the reasons behind the decrease would be how to proceed.
Mishandling of the issue would have a good chance of just pissing the wrong people off.
