What a neat new XC scene! As for me? --I'm about all-rounderism

I really like the "all in one" idea behind this new HQ for XC. All ages, all styles, all keeping in touch.

I'll chime in as an advocate of all-rounder skiing. I do what I call rando skiing every day. I ski a bunch of local self-skied-in trails. I use a ski-racing classic technique but I use wider skis and I just love exploring all sorts of trails and places. It's free, it's nearby (when I want to go close), it's anywhere I want to go. Occasionally on weekends I'll meet up with people an… Continue

Well, we did it! It took 10 hours, dawn to dusk. What fun to ski something that has never been skied before! It was a challenge on many levels. I find it wonderful to challenge myself in a more diverse, less focused way these days. I don't have to worry a bit about wax or specific training, but I can still push it every which way. What fun!

PS: The week before there was a backcountry race on another really tough trail downstate, the Potto. All the "real" ski racers went upstate on the weekend, I'm sure. But there was great snow and this amazing trail and an unofficial event downstate, too! 15 showed up and I put in a good showing for the skiers by coming in first. The others were mostly mtbike freaks. A fun bunch. A good hard casual race. 17 miles of hills and technical action. 3 hours! I was wasted. It was a cliffhanger, too, as a robodude 24-hr bike race winner type guy was in front until near the end...

A friend and I are going to attempt to ski the full, ungroomed Waterloo-Pinckney trail tomorrow.

36 miles. 58 km. Of big hills.

It's not a race, but it's never been done before that I know of. It's going to be a BIG DAY.

Steady + Pizza = Doable!

Wish us luck! --JP

Hey! Neat new ski community! My thing is allrounder outdoor action (and indoor, too). I run a website that's dedicated to this, http://OutYourBackDoor.com---for bikes, boats, skis, guns, bows, rake and hoe...and the rest.

[BTW, I had a comment here before but I found out that if you click the red X you delete it. : ) I figured the site would give me a warning or clarify what the X did. I wanted to edit the comment, not delete it. Oh well!]
